Serving Holistic Design
What is holism, then? It's the idea that every system (with its characteristics, qualities, and faults) must be considered as a whole, not just an algebraic sum of discrete parts. A holistic approach to design involves a multidisciplinary process, where the outcome is more than the sum of its parts.
1+1=∞
Fabio Santaniello Bruun
— In short. For over 10 years I've worked at the intersection of digital interfaces and physical surfaces, focusing on strategy, UX/UI, visual identity, and storytelling for products, services, and cultural initiatives.
I do my best work where the problem is multidisciplinary, layered, and loosely defined, because the solution isn't mathematical. It emerges through a process where creativity, research, and method intertwine, landing on an outcome that balances function and meaning.
— A bit more. Multidisciplinary designer, economy-guided and beauty-driven.
I studied Building Engineering and Architecture at the University of Pisa, but early on I realised that what interested me was not the technical or formal outcome of a project — what mattered was meaning: the ideas being communicated, and the emotions they carry.
I approach every project as a system of time, energy, resources, context, constraints, and people. This "economy" defines the project itself and should guide its outcome: not as a limitation, but as a design material.
I'm not a functionalist in the strict sense. I believe form follows function, but I also believe that function is not always efficiency or performance. Sometimes the function of design is clarity. Sometimes it's beauty. Sometimes it's happiness.
