This environmental signage proposal builds on the existing signage system, evolving it into a framework that lays the groundwork for a future, comprehensive redesign. Current elements—such as wall-mounted lettering, wooden panels, and mobile notice totems—are used as references for the overall mood and are enhanced where possible. When changing an existing format would require replacing all current elements, the proposal is presented as a conceptual vision at the end of the booklet.
The project includes: external vertical signage, the main BASE entrance, internal signage for the Burò, mobile vertical indoor signage, additional improvements, and interactive outdoor furniture.
External vertical signage complements the planned horizontal system, improving orientation for first-time visitors and reinforcing spatial memory for recurring ones.
The central entrance proposal turns this access point into a key hub for vertical circulation.
Burò signage focuses on making workstations immediately understandable, supported by a message and correspondence board.
The “various and additional” section addresses current gaps, while the interactive furniture reimagines how BASE’s outdoor spaces are experienced.
The concept is inspired by BASE’s motto, “A place for cultural progress.” While the motto defines BASE as an institution—an intangible sum of spaces, events, and activities—the signage translates it into the physical realm. Cultural progress becomes a tangible place, and every place needs a boundary.
That boundary is a line: sometimes virtual, sometimes physical, sometimes mental. A closed curve defines a surface; extend it vertically and it defines a space. With a simple one-dimensional gesture, an entire lived environment is claimed.
It is the line that surrounds and defines each element that sets its scope, creates clarity, and separates meaningful information from surrounding chaos.
