D1GIT
D1GIT is a printed visual magazine by cultural association 120g exploring technology applied to architecture through bold editorial design and experimental imagery — awarded a Certificate of Typographic Excellence by the Type Directors Club.
Context
3D printers, micro-algae, spores, parametrically programmed ultra-resistant materials, dynamic volumes: technology is already reshaping how we design buildings, or will we keep building houses in the shape of… houses? D1GIT is the second issue (following Lacuna) of 120g’s zine, printed on Fedrigoni Old Mill 130gsm paper in offset, 2+2 colors — Pantone 806 U Fluo Pink and Pantone 300 U Spanish Blue.
Concept
D1GIT stages the tension between nature and technological innovation in the built environment. Inheriting the 340×240mm format from the first issue — 12 pages plus a folding poster that also works as cover — the issue had to feel pop and futuristic without ever sacrificing readability.
The design exploits type, bold color and semi-abstract imagery to translate the issue’s theme into a visual language. Two typefaces carry the whole system: Liber Grotesque, by our friend Valerio at Hederae Type Foundry, and IBM Plex Mono. All imagery is a duo project by Ray Oranges and Francesca Dattilo, who also shot the studio pictures featured on this page.

Results
D1GIT received the Type Directors Club’s Certificate of Typographic Excellence. It was included in the 2019 Annual of the Type Directors Club, The World’s Best Typography, and exhibited at the 65th Awards Exhibition (TDC65) in New York City, alongside 8 other cities worldwide.
