Polittico Research Lab

Context

Polit(t)ico Research Lab is a versatile research platform focusing on architectural theory, epistemology and the arts — a center for creative and experimental research promoting seminars, talks, workshops, symposia, exhibitions, performances and publications, born from an idea of prof. arch. Lina Malfona within the Architectural Composition course at the University of Pisa.

Problem

The lab’s own name is already a design brief: “Polittico” is a polyptych, a painting divided into sections or panels — and PRL’s output is itself fragmented across many different formats, from seminars to publications. The identity needed to hold all of it together as one recognizable system.

A flxible and recognizable design system

I developed PRL’s visual identity, logo and website, along with all posters and visuals promoting its workshops, conferences and activities. The identity and website are built on Sharp Type’s Beatrice Display and TypeType’s TT Firs Neue, pastel colors with stronger hues reserved for headlines, and the PRL logo shape used as a mask — playing directly on the polyptych concept behind the lab’s own name.
